Maddy is very full of energy. I've been told that dogs take after their owner's personalities which scares us a little! Derek and I are both full of energy and if we are at home we are always doing something or working on something. We are both pretty loud and are cut-ups most of the time. There is always something going on at our house and I think Maddy feeds off that. Maddy is always into something so if Deacon is anything like her I will never sit down!

Maddy has taught us what it means to be responsible for someone other than ourselves. We used to have no time restraints and could pick up and go at the drop of a hat. Now we have to make arrangements for her which has given us a glimpse into parenthood.

We have absolutely spoiled Maddy rotten and we are afraid that we may pay for that come July. We got Maddy at a time when we were both struggling with some issues in our life and we needed her as much as she needed us. Since the day we brought her home one of us is at home with her most of the time or she is with us wherever we go. She prefers to be in our laps or being carried around the house. There is never a time when she isn't by one of our sides. If one of us gets a phone call and the other one isn't home she barks or cry because she isn't getting our full attention....we are in trouble we know!

For the past year and a half it's been "just the 3 of us" which I love to sing all the time. We wouldn't have had it any other way. We are very excited to add Deacon to our family but we will never forget the fun times we had just us three. We are glad Maddy is out of the puppy stage before we enter the baby stage.

We aren't naive, we know that things will change once the baby comes. We expect this. The same will be true for Deacon when any future siblings come along. Maddy will go from being the center of our world to sharing her time. We hope and pray she handles that adjustment well. Regardless of the new addition, we will always love Maddy and make time for her...our very first baby.
